Application process for industrial hemp growth announced

The Missouri Department of Agriculture has announced how producers can apply to grow industrial hemp next year in the Show-Me State.

Department of Agriculture Communications Specialist, Sami Jo Freeman, says agriculturists are looking for ways to enhance their farming businesses.

"In the last 12 to 18 months, we know that this has been a primary question as far as Missouri agriculture goes.  People are looking for ways to diversify their operation and some certainly see this as a way to do so."

Freeman says those interested farmers have several things they'll need to do. She says they must complete a written application, create parcel maps, and complete a fingerprint criminal history background check. Starting next Monday, a final fill-able application and number required to complete the background check will be available on the Department’s website.
